As in nature, life is full of variations and changes. I believe in the Daoist/Buddhist concept that the moral order is implicit in the natural order and that the two are mutually interactive. Nature, then, is seen as a metaphor manifested in all aspects of life. My artistic process parallels meditation, which leads to an enlightenment of the spirit. In an intuitive way, I seek the fusion of my spirit with the real nature of the medium. My paintings tend to provoke the viewer to observe, experience and extend beyond the work at hand; to appreciate from experience and to think beyond various sizes and scale so as to realize painting in relation to the happenings of nature. Viewers can walk through my paintings in the same way they walk through nature quietly meeting the green, blue, yellow, spring spouts and red leaves of autumn, or gently absorbing the sounds, odors and textural changes that occur along the path. Viewers seem to observe nature and listen to a song of nature. I would like them to go further so as to feel nature's wholeness and power. My spirit and the spirit of nature are abstracted through the painting process. Using sequence and space to create movement and rhythm as in music, I attempt to make painting a harmonious world through the process. My paintings are liberated physically and visually to celebrate the exciting variety, the richness of color and movement, and the transformation of shape and form which are ever so much a part of a Daoist ideology.
